2012 Week 13 5* NFL Picks: Patriots -7, Texans -7 #nflonedotcom #nf

This is one of those weeks where you find out if you are ‘better late than never’ or ‘a day late, and a dollar short’. Surprising, the New England Patriots, who are averaging 43.6 points per game in their last five games, are only 3-2 ATS during the run. While Brady, 105 rating, is powering 7.84 yards per attempt with only 3 interceptions, it is the rise of the rushing attack, and Ridley’s 4.6 yards per carry that has been key. Having relied on its defense, look for Tannehill, 72.9 rating, whose Dolphis have only averaged 18.2 points per game on 96.8 rushing yards per game in its last five games to get behind early. While the Fish have played the Pats tough in New England, only once in the last five years, in 2009, were the Dolphins able to keep it close at Home.

Having struggled with the TITANS in Tennessee, Kubiak and the Houston Texans turned the tide in 2011, and are now 4-1 ATS in their last five matchups. Outscoring their opponents by nearly 11 points per game in their last five games, the Texans face a Titans team that has now fallen out of the playoff picture. While the Texans offense has been impressive, it is the defense, and their 30 sacks that continues to be stellar. Allowing only 87.5 rushing yards per game, the Texans will stop Johnson, and force the Titans to the air; most troubling for the Titans will be 3rd down where Houston is allowing only a 28.5% 3rd down completion percentage.

  1. PUSH>>Patriots 23 – DOLPHINS 16>>Miami, FL (Sports Network) – The New England Patriots clinched the AFC East on Sunday. It was far from easy, however. Tom Brady’s rhythm was disrupted by a spirited Miami defense, but the Patriots capitalized on several miscues on their way to a 23-16 victory at Sun Life Stadium. Brady was 24-of-40 for 238 yards with one touchdown pass to Wes Welker and a rare interception. Stevan Ridley scored on a short touchdown run and picked up critical yards on a fourth-quarter drive to help New England (9-3) prevail and capture the division crown for the 10th time in 12 years. Welker had 103 yards on 12 grabs, tying Jerry Rice’s NFL record for most games with 10-plus receptions at 17. Rookie Ryan Tannehill completed 13-of-29 passes and finished with 186 yards for the Dolphins (5-7).

  2. WINNER>>Texans 24 – TITANS 10>>Nashville, TN (Sports Network) – Matt Schaub completed 21-of-35 passes for 207 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Houston Texans to a 24-10 win over the Tennessee Titans on Sunday. The Texans’ defense forced three interceptions and recovered three fumbles, while Arian Foster carried the ball 14 times for 38 yards and a touchdown and Lestar Jean had a 54-yard touchdown reception for Houston (11-1), which clinched its second consecutive playoff berth with the win. Tennessee’s Jake Locker was 21-for-45 passing for 309 yards and a touchdown, but threw three interceptions. Nate Washington had three catches for 96 yards and Chris Johnson rushed for 51 yards on 13 carries for the Titans (4-8), who have dropped four of their last five games overall.
